Review: Quigley Down Under 2 (2025)
After more than three decades, the legendary sharpshooter Matthew Quigley returns to the big screen in Quigley Down Under 2. The sequel had a lot to live up to—nostalgia, action, and the legacy of a cult classic—and while it doesn’t always hit the bullseye, it delivers a thrilling ride through the Australian Outback.
The story follows an older, battle-worn Quigley drawn back to Australia after a new land baron threatens to displace Indigenous communities for profit. What begins as a simple call for help turns into a sprawling tale of revenge, redemption, and cultural reckoning.
Visually, the film makes excellent use of sweeping landscapes—endless deserts, sun-scorched canyons, and wide-open plains captured with stunning cinematography. The shootouts are staged with grit and precision, balancing old-school Western style with modern intensity.
Performance-wise, the returning lead (fictionally reprised) brings gravitas and weary charm, while the younger supporting cast adds energy and fresh dynamics. The Indigenous characters are given more depth and respect this time, grounding the story with emotional weight.
Where the film stumbles is in pacing; the middle act drags under the weight of too many subplots, and a few moments feel like fan-service rather than genuine storytelling. Still, when the action kicks in—particularly in the tense, dust-filled climax—the film soars.
Verdict: Quigley Down Under 2 (2025) may not surpass the original, but it respects its legacy and offers a rousing, heartfelt continuation. For longtime fans, it feels like reuniting with an old friend—battle-scarred, wiser, but still deadly with a rifle.
