Movie Review: Jurassic World (2025)

“Just when it seemed like the Jurassic franchise had reached extinction, Jurassic World (2025) breathes new life into the saga with a thrilling mix of spectacle, suspense, and surprisingly strong character work. Far from just another dino-filled sequel, this new installment feels like a reinvention—one that balances nostalgia with bold, new ideas.

The story takes place years after the events of Dominion, with humanity struggling to coexist with dinosaurs in a fragile, uneasy balance. When a shadowy biotech corporation weaponizes a new breed of genetically altered predators, chaos erupts once more, forcing both familiar heroes and new faces to fight for survival—and for the planet’s future.

The cast is excellent. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return with grounded, confident performances, while new additions—including Florence Pugh as a determined scientist and John Boyega as an ex-military tracker—inject fresh energy. The interplay between old and new characters gives the film a dynamic, ensemble feel reminiscent of the original Jurassic Park.

And then, of course, there are the dinosaurs. They’ve never looked better. The film features a jaw-dropping mix of practical animatronics and cutting-edge CGI, with new species that are as terrifying as they are awe-inspiring. From a breathtaking aerial sequence involving pterosaurs to a nail-biting underwater encounter with a colossal predator, the action set pieces are among the franchise’s best.

Director Colin Trevorrow leans heavily into suspense, evoking Spielbergian tension with long stretches of dread punctuated by explosive bursts of chaos. The pacing is sharp, keeping audiences hooked from start to finish. The score, with echoes of John Williams’ iconic themes, amplifies both the wonder and the terror.

If the film stumbles, it’s in its overstuffed narrative—some subplots feel rushed, and not every character gets the spotlight they deserve. Still, the sheer scale and emotional stakes carry the movie through its weaker moments.

The finale—set in a sprawling, dinosaur-infested preserve—feels like both a love letter to the original trilogy and a bold step toward the franchise’s future.

Jurassic World (2025) is a triumphant return to form: scary, exciting, and packed with the sense of awe that made audiences fall in love with dinosaurs back in 1993.
